Very rare and quite wonderful, 1920’s Cast Iron Doorstop in the form of a Bear and resembling an Inuit Soapstone Carving. This massive Doorstop weighs almost 10 lbs and retains the vast majority of its original paint. This outstanding, Figural Doorstop measures approx. 5 1/2 tall to the top of the Bear’s shoulders and 4 1/2″ by 4″ at the base. It depicts the stylized Bear form standing on all four feet atop a “sloped”, 2 level step form base. Original black surface paint covers all surfaces and the Doorstop and the Bear both resemble an Eskimo / Inuit Soapstone Carving. While we have owned hundreds of Figural Cast Iron Doorstops over the past 37+ years, we have never even seen an example of this wonderful Bear Form Doorstop. We believe it to be exceptionally rare! This rare and quite wonderful, early 20th century Figural Bear Cast Iron Doorstop is in very good condition. There are no crack, breaks, chips, repairs or physical damage to the cast iron. The Doorstop retains the vast majority of its original, black surface paint as can be seen in the scans below. The surface paint is 100% original and the Doorstop has never been restored, repainted, touched up or altered in any way.
