Rare Orig Antique Cast Iron Sinkbox Canvasback Wing Duck Decoy John Graham Model

CAST IRON SINKBOX CANVASBACK. JOHN GRAHAM – UPPER CHESAPEAKE BAY MODEL. EXCEPTIONAL CONDITION WITH ORIGINAL FINISH. Antique Original Cast Iron Sinkbox Wing Duck Decoys in this condition don’t become available very often. This is a wonderful example of a John Graham Canvasback from the Upper Bay of the Chesapeake Bay. John Graham was born and lived in Charlestown, Maryland (1822 – 1912) located up above the Susquehanna River. This great old Cast Iron Sinkbox Decoy is in exceptional condition without any cracks or repairs. It has its original finish although there is some age related pitting. It has a Solid Body with a great aged patina. This Antique piece of Cast Iron is quite heavy weighing over 18 pounds. It measures 13 inches long, 5 1/2 inches in height and 6 1/4 inches in width. Today many antique cast iron collectors use these great old functional Sinkbox Duck Decoys as Doorstops. Here is some history from Wikipedia regarding the Sinkbox Boats, waterfowl hunting and the Cast Iron Sinkbox Wing Duck Decoys. Were used as ballast, placed on top of the sinkbox boat to disguise the sinkbox, and to attract game close to the hunters. A sinkbox boat is a specialized. It consists of a weighted, partially submerged enclosure large enough to hold one or more hunters and suspended from a floating platform. It is placed into calm water so that the hunter may wait with the waterline at approximately shoulder height. Sinkboxes were typically used by market (rather than sport) hunters for. Here is a rare Hubley “Flapper” Cast Iron Duck Paperweight or Doorstop designed by Grace Raynor. It is marked Flapper on the front and GR (c) 1922 on the back. It measures approximately 4 and is in excellent condition with signs of use consistent with its age. Please message me with any questions. Has a weld slag build up on inner front door catch that appear factory but excessive. 2 Second is a hollow body cast iron duck boot scraper, 15″ long by 6″ wide by 4 3/8 high, looks to have an old re-paint, unmarked.
