A single CAST IRON bookend of an Indian chief. This is the very best one I have ever seen and that’s why, as a collector I acquired it Photos taken outdoors in natural sunlight. The colors are muted, not garish. Never re-painted or altered in any way. Almost 5 across widest part of its base. Eyes are black, braids are black. Red on part of the mouth. ANTIQUE PAINTED CAST IRON INDIAN CHIEF DOORSTOP POSSIBLY HUBLEY WEIGHS ABOUT 3LB. This is an antique heavy cast iron doorstop in the shape of an Indian Chief. Probably dates to the early 1900s. Piece has most of the original paint still on it also. This was bought in Pennsylvania and we were told that it is possibly a Hubley brand piece. It is unmarked though as many of their pieces were. Please see pictures for design and condition detail. Measures about 5.5″ tall by 6.5″ wide from horse tail to snout. Weighs about 3 lbs. Antique doorstops cast in the figure of a North American totem are scarce. This is the figure of an animal with what we would describe as upturned paws, small ridges of teeth on the lower lip (not easily seen but can be felt when touched), pointed ears, and a tail between its legs. We believe it is either a beaver or a wolf what do you think? There are no breaks or missing pieces to the doorstop. The original paint is in shades of cream/yellow, red, green, and black. There is overall original paint loss (see photos). There is also a dash of white or ivory house paint at the base (again, please see photo). The door stop stands approximately 6 1/8 inches high and we believe it was cast in the 1920s, although there are no foundry marks on it. The back and bottom are unpainted and unadorned. RaRe Folk-Art Tom Breen Large 10 LB Cast Iron “Indian Summer” Door Stop. There is a website stating Mr. Breen Produced 28 Cast Iron Door Stops in the 1980’s signed “Indian Summer” such at this one. He passed in 2011 at 73 and was well known is New England for his Folk Art Pieces he produced some of which he did with a chain saw. This Door stop is of a very high quality and very well done. It’s big and heavy and could be a one of a kind for sure if only 28 different ones where made. See all my photo’s which show great detailing of this piece including it’s size and weight on scale. The hand painting is pretty well done also and is made to last. Condition Description’ Has some light wear but No Damage No Repairs. Packaged well No Worries.
