Hubley was famous for their wonderful cast iron toys, doorstops and book ends. Their creations are true Americana! This Hubley sitting Persian cat cast iron doorstop is documented as being somewhat rare. It is one of the larger Hubley cat doorstops weighing 5.6 pounds and having a height of just over 9. The doorstop has two Hubley markings inside near the base (see red arrows in the photos). I could not find a marked number but it may be a model #302. The doorstop was made circa 1900 – 1920. This doorstop appears in several reference books about cast iron doorstops. The Persian cat is painted gray, brown and white. The cat has blue eyes and pink in the ears & mouth (tongue). There is a wonderful expression on the face of the cat. The position of the body is lovely and realistic. The paint appears to be original and untouched. Please note the condition of the paint on the face of the cat, especially the nose area. It has minimal paint damage & loss. Most doorstops of this cat that I have seen suffer much paint loss around the nose perhaps from doors banging into the nose. The doorstop has typical wear found on these old cast iron doorstops including wear to the paint, chips, rust, scrapes, dirt and scratches. It has not been altered by me by waxing, washing, touching up or anything else. I only used the Persian cat doorstop for display in my Americana collection. The cat has not been used as a doorstop for the last 50 years. I believe the condition of the paint is very good or better compared to similar cast iron doorstops. The aged wear and patina on the paint is part of the great charm for these American treasures from the past. I have not ever cleaned the doorstop outside. Materials: Cast iron & paint.
