Superb find, awesome and authentic antique / vintage white striding cat doorstop still bank combination on its original brick styled base… Made c 1940s, but exact date is unknown as no makers mark found. Guessing made in USA. All original throughout, paint is very good with natural aging, to be expected of an original piece… Has very superficial oxidation as shown… The only TLC I gave this piece was to tenderly dust and buff off a few carpet strands and minor debris with a dry cloth. I will fully guarantee that this is NOT a reproduction and that it is indeed an original antique/ vintage piece. Please see all the images closely, as the beauty of this cat is in its details. Very rare to find an original like this especially in white… Have seen some black similar but from the lines and details, they appear to be reproductions (my opinion, only) and have no base as well. This cat is solidly attached to the base with old screws that still have original paint on them, so bank has not been taken apart from what I can see… On flat hard surface, sits firm and straight with a very minute wobble to one corner if checking / trying to purposely rock , believe just made a bit off level in its manufacturing as not bent or damaged in any way… Of course, no issue on a carpet.. Mentioning for full disclosure. Overall this piece measures appx 9″ L x 8″ H x 4 W… The cat itself is 9″ L x 7.5″ H and at is broadest point, the hips, 3.75 W… The face from jowl to jowl is 2″ W and 2.25″ W at the ears. Its chest is 3 W… Weight of this beauty is appx 5.5-6 pounds. As shown, it has a gorgeous and naturally aged finish, again, all paint is original, no touch up anywhere not damage found. The oxidation is quite normal and would leave as is, which is by your preference… May desire to clear coat spray with proper product to prevent further oxidation in the future as comes from natural moisture in the air… Was found with a few carpet strands clinging to the base, carefully cleaned but may have a few I missed. Will be well packaged to get to you safely and inured of course.. 1930’s Antique Signed WILTON CAST IRON WATER TURTLE DOOR STOP. 1930’S SCARCELY FOUND HUBLEY-ERA CAST IRON Cast iron WATER TURTLE TORTOISE DOOR STOP DOORSTOP MINT CONDITION. Made by Wilton Products Inc. 1893, the Wilton family began the Susquehanna Casting Company along the Susquehanna River in Wrightsville, PA, making industrial and consumer iron items. In 1930, they became Wilton Products, and began making metal art goods, including this very hard to find and highly sought after Cast Iron Water Turtle Doorstopper. It measures a large 8 3/4″ long, 7 ½” wide and 3 1/4 tall. It is very heavy, at almost 7 pounds. This life sized turtle is pictured in John and Nancy Smith’s The Doorstop Book. It is impressed on the bottom with the “WILTON” foundry mark. As you can see by the close up of the foot, the detail is very realistic. I have come across a few of the Hubley Box Turtles, but this Wilton Water Turtle Door Stopper is a real rarity! At first glance, you might think this is just another cast iron doorstop. Although it certainly could be used as one, I believe it was originally designed to be used as a salesman’s sample. I’ve never seen another like it and could only find one online that was very similar, and it’s described as a rare salesman’s sample. Makes sense to me. It’s a complete fireplace, with a mantel that has a lion and its prey on the top with a shield between them. There are columns on both sides of the fireplace, with brass bars across the fire pit, as well as a brass fender. The fender is not attached to the piece, but simply rests in front of it. Amazing that it was not lost over the years! The fireplace has ornate cast iron leaves and fruit decoration on both sides. This intriguing piece is all original, down to the nuts and bolts that hold it together. It’s a large and heavy piece, measuring 11″ wide and 13″ tall. It’s in excellent condition for its age, which research tells me is circa 1880s. The paint is what I would say almost excellent there are no chips or cracks, no dings or dents, and no signs of repair. The door stop is two pieces of cast iron metal in the shape of a Boston Terrier with its head turned to the LEFT. The piece measures 9 3/4 inches tall by 9 3/4 inches long. It’s almost 9 lbs.
