Antique Boston Terrier Dog Cast Iron Bookends Bradley Hubbard 1926 or Doorstops

Antique Bradley and Hubbard Bookends Boston Terrier, Bulldog Cast Iron 1926. Made by the’Masters of Metal’ the Bradley and Hubbard firm, this pair of bookends features Bull-type dog. They are modeled on both sides and are very detailed. The collars, faces and feet are very detailed and even the fur is detailed over their whole bodies. This pair of dogs is a beautiful example of Bradley & Hubbard, and is a very rare set, with the B&H mark on the back. Size: 4 7/8 inches wide at base, 5 1/4 inches tall and 2 1/2 inches deep. ANTIQUE VINTAGE BABY DUCK DOORSTOP PAPERWEIGHT ORIGINAL 1ST PAINT c1930

Sweet antique vintage standing baby yellow duck duckling doorstop paperweight for the nursery door or to set on a shelf. About 4.75 inches high, solid full body iron with original oxidized hand painted highlights in fine old condition with a few teeny expected flecks and patina, sits straight and true. No damage, repair or touchups whatsoever, smooth surface. Not certain of the maker, Hubley or Albany come to mind, definitely American. Guaranteed as described, a whimsical baby duck doorstop statuette, circa 1930s. One of Salems most talented crafting families was named Symonds. It included English joiner John Symonds ca. Their more modern descendant is Sarah Symonds, a sculptor, artist and craftsman who was born in Victorian Salem in 1870, five years after the Civil War ended in 1865. She is thought to have been in the ninth generation of descent from patriarch John, last in a local line that included John b. 1841 and Sarah b. Her pieces made commercially for sale in Salem after about 1905 were typically made through a complex series of stages, involving evidently the crafting of a clay original model, the painting on of a latex or liquid molding compound, the pouring of new plaster casts in latex molds, and the painting of finished plaster casts. From her casts and models, she also produced ornamental painted items made of cast iron like the fantastic antique original doorstop listed here. The bulk of Sarahs crafted products were Salem souvenirs and promotional items, including finely detailed casts representing the House of the Seven Gables, the John Ward House, the Peirce Nichols House, and buildings on Salems Chestnut Street. This weathered yard ornament or door stop has all the character and detail of the Hubley, however, I cannot find a mark. It is very possible that this gnome was made by another company.
