The piece is about 12 1/2 inches tall, by 5 7/8 inches wide. It is made in two halves, with a bolt connecting them through the back. The seams are somewhat filled in, and the piece has what appears to be original red, cream, white and black paint. There are no marks. Condition on the piece is fairly good. There is some paint loss, dirt, stains and light foot rust from use and age. There are some internal rattles. It does not appear to have been repainted or messed with. A fine old doorstop! Hubley Mfg Foundry Cast Iron Gladiolus Flower Basket Doorstop Original Paint. Doorstop from a local estate here in Central Virginia. The “Gladiolus” / No. 489 doorstop was one of the many “flower garden” designs produced by the Lancaster, PA foundry during the 1920’s / 1930’s. The piece is well executed with crisp mold and nice embossed detail to the floral spray with central gladiolus arrangement. The original hand painted surface is in good condition with the pictured oxidation and edge wear (no repainting or touch up has been done). The piece measures 10 ¼” high, 8 ¼” wide and 3 deep at the triangular base. The interior lower foot bears the “489” production mark. Other than the noted paint wear the piece has no damage.
