This antique doorstop features a beautiful brown and cream thoroughbred horse design, crafted from durable cast iron material. Hubley was a popular American brand known for producing high-quality, die-cast metal toys, giving them a sturdy and durable build. They were produced primarily during the early to mid-20th century. Dimensions: 10 1/2″ high x 12″ wide x 3 deep. Weighs about 6 1/2 lbs. Condition: Original very good, with some minor paint scratches as shown in photos. No damage, no overpaint, and no repairs. NOTES ON VINTAGE ITEM – I sell these as they are found – minimal cleaning. They may have signs of scratches, flea bites, trim color fading, or manufacture flaws. This listing is for a Hubley Art Deco Cat cast iron doorstop. It measures just under 10 tall and weighs about 8lb 9oz. You will find “Hubley” stamped on the inner rim of the bottom. The screw on the back has been filled/covered and the side seams are a little crude in places. There is a tiny chip at the corner of one ear and a few white scuff marks. The bottom edge has some rust. It’s possible this is a recast, but not sure. Please ask any questions before purchasing.

This beautiful Hubley Cast Iron “Charleston Dancers” Anne Fish Cast Iron Doorstop is a must-have for any collector of cast iron metalware. Handmade in the United States, this doorstop features a stunning design of Charleston dancers and is made of high-quality cast iron material. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to own this beautiful piece of American history. Anne Harriet Fish (Sefton – Married name) was born in Bristol, England. She worked in oil & watercolors. After coning to New York City, she did illustrations for “Vanity Fair” and “Vogue” including the cover for “Vanity Fair” in April, 1917. During World War I, “Porcelain Doll Heads” were unattainable from Germany. So, Fulper, a Flemington, NJ company, established a new product line: “Porcelain Doll Heads”. Fulper was established in 1909 and made stoneware clay pottery. However, after the War, the market for Porcelain Doll Heads collapsed and Fulper had to resort to “ceramic novelties” made from porcelain. They hired Anne Harriet Fish (Sefton) to do some design work for them in the 1920’s. Her drawings sell in the low hundreds of dollar now. Note in one of her drawings shown here: There is a strong similarity with this drawing and her “BATHING GIRLS” Doorstop she designed for Hubley. She designed Seven Doorstops for Hubley: # 269 – The TIGER #249 – The MESSENGER BOY # 268 – The PALOR MAID #250 – BATHING GIRLS # 270 – CHARLESTON DANCERS # 222 – SMALL FOOTMEN # 248 – LARGE FOOTMEN. Probably because of her experience in Ceramics, all her doostops had a high gloss to them. On a lot of her existing doorstops, this finish has woren off.
