Antique Victorian 19thC cast iron imposing sejant lion doorstops 36cm 4.5kg each

A magnificent pair of imposing, cast iron Victorian doorstops. These heraldic, sejant lions are a near matching pair, please see images to identify the difference, 1 is stamped on the reverse Rowbotham, this being apx 1cm shorter than the other with no stamp and slightly heavier. A proud and handsome pair, more substantial than most examples and offered in exceptional condition, these are special, superb quality and crisp cast of exacting detail. Each weigh apx 4.5kg. FINE ANTIQUE 19thC CAST IRON DOOR STOP / WEIGHT WITH SILVERED LION BROAD ARROW

A good quality and unusual 19th century cast iron door stop / weight, with a silvered recumbent lion, well-modelled and full of character! Number’5′ mark on the base. The item weighs 2.15kg, or just under 4lb 12oz. One theory is that this was a 5lb weight which has lost some filling? There is also an etched arrow on the bottom edge which could be a broad arrow signifying government property. Good original antique condition. Some natural surface wear commensurate with age. Some tiny specs of paint from decorating but could easily be cleaned off if desired. Measures 20cm length x 9cm width x 7.5cm height. Ipainte gold this Clydesdale work horse has tiny flecks of mica on the back. There is some surface wear to the mica flecks and painted surface, but there are no other problems. This is a superb 19thc architectural gothic cast iron winged gargoyle doorstop. Excellent attention to detail to this gothic doorstop. Wonderful detail to this winged gargoyle with forked tail winding around tree trunk. Lettering impressed to back of doorstop. Dimensions: 10.75″ height x 6″ width at base x 2 depth at base. V RARE COALBROOKDALE 19THC VICTORIAN CAST IRON DOOR STOP LION PUMA CAT SIGNED

Please please be aware that leaving anything less than 5 stars is seen as below standard. A very rare original early Victorian COALBROOKDALE CAST IRON DOOR STOP / FIRE PLACE DECORATION. Made from iron smeltered in Coalbrookdales own blast furnace which was the first of its kind during the 1700s when the companies founder first invented the process. Shaped with lioness or panther type large cat set amongst foliage, vines etc. Is fully marked to reverse. THE COALBROOKDALE COMPANY REGISTERED OCTOBER 28th 1841, No 895. There is a very old 19th century repair plate to the back of the piece had strengthens a couple of cracks to the stem, although the piece was NOT broken completely across in two pieces. Obviously this repair was done by a very skilled blacksmith with hammered rivets through the piece. The plate does obscure the outline of a small section of the upper stem but i think the repair is a piece of art in itself. So highly regarded was this particular piece that the repair was undertaken. Size: 38 x 17 x 7.5 cms. Condition: Is in total original aged condition with no over painting – some minor surface rust and wear and that repair plate to the back of the stem (see pics). With good packing available.
