This is an original cast iron Pointer dog doorstop manufactured by the Hubley Manufacturing Company in Lancaster Pennsylvania USA. The piece has retained its original hand painted finish which shows wear and knicks and chips. It is in excellent condition with the appropriate patina for its age. DATE OF MANUFACTURE: 1910 -1940. MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUES: Cast Iron, hand painted. CONDITION: Very good-Wear consistent with age and use. HISTORY: The Hubley Manufacturing Co. Was incorporated in 1894 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania by John Hubley and produced hand painted cast-iron toys and household objects such as doorstops, bookends and bottle openers with themes that ranged from different breeds of dogs, to horses and cars. In the casting process, metalworkers would carve out a wooden form or hammer the design out in metal. The form was then pressed into finely compacted sand, making an impression, and the cast iron was heated to 3000 degrees which was then poured into the sand mold. N the decorating department, painters applied a base coat of white, cream or black to the piece and colorists used a variety of hues to achieve defining features. 5 3/8″ from tip of his nose to the tip of the tail, 8″ inches tall and 3 3/8 at the widest part of his head. Gorgeous ANTIQUE BRADLEY HUBBARD LG CAST IRON PARROT RING ART STATUE SCULPTURE DOORSTOP. Guaranteed old and original with original paint on both sides. United States (Meriden, CT). Wear consistent with age and use. Overall the company patented 238 designs and mechanical devices. Bradley and Hubbard started out producing clocks, during the Civil War when. Markets opened west of the Mississippi. Throughout the 1850s and 1860s they added other lines of household. Goods including sewing machines, call bells and match safes. In 1859, with the discovery of oil in Titusville, Pennsylvania, B&H began producing kerosene burning lamps. Which eventually replaced whale oil burning lamps. By the 1890s B&H had showrooms in New York, Boston, Philadelphia and Chicago. Sears and Roebuck and Montgomery Ward. In the 1910s, 1920s and 1930s they produced a line of outstanding bronzed or polychromed cast iron bookends and doorstops from molten iron poured into sand molds.
