Victorian Punch & Judy Cast Iron Doorstop Door Stops Bookends Hand Painted 12 tall. Up for sale is this beautiful matching pair of Victorian hand painted/enameled Punch & Judy cast iron door stops. Both are intricately hand painted with glossy vibrant colors. The doorstops are in great antique condition with crazing in the enamel work and a few tiny specks of paint loss here and there. The Punch door stop measures 11 1/2″ x 9″ x 3 3/8 and weighs 7 lb 2 oz. The Judy doorstop measures 11 13/16″ x 8 5/8″ x 3 3/8 and weighs 6 lb 5 oz. If you were ever a child….. You would have loved these shows… This is a nostalgiac blast from the past in excellent original condition. Many of these cast iron doorstops of this period have been repainted by enthusiasts but this one has remained in its original glory having been very well looked after. Please see all photos. MR PUNCH, with his red nose and cheek, yellow ruffle collar, green suit, red hat with gold crown… Blue dots in a line up it….. Holding a cream feather quill pen, sitting in a green chair with a brown dog with cream feather in his hat, sitting besides a pile of coloured books. Such a lot of detail to be seen… Flesh coloured leg and base with a dark green edge. The back is silver painted. Some original painted Mr. Punch doorstops are of differing colour ways… Giving the artist some freedom of choice. This colourway, for me, is superb….. Just enough contrast but not too garish! Condition: please see photos…. Few nibbles to the paint but in excellent antique condition commensurate with age. Measurements: 12 1/4 height x 9 wide x 3 1/2 deep. Vintage Punch and His Dog Toby Cast Iron Copper Flashed 12 Tall Doorstop. This comical doorstop features Punch of Punch and Judy fame, sitting with his dog, Toby, taking snuff. This heavy doorstop measures 9 x 3-1/5 x 12 tall and is in excellent antique condition; there is a little surface rust and it’s a bit dirty, but nothing is broken or missing. RARE LATE 19TH CENTURY, LARGE 12’PUNCH & JUDY’ (UK) FIGURATIVE, MONUMENTAL CAST IRON DOOR STOP. 1880, W/ORIGINAL MATTER BLACK PAINTED ENAMEL FINISH. Late 19th century cast iron English door stops. 12″ Height x 9″ Width x 3 ½ Depth. Original matte black painted enamel surface. Only dusted, rinsed with tepid water and then quickly dried with a soft cotton cloth and then oiled to prevent oxidation to the cleaned cast iron surfaces. It was originally filthy and covered with dust, grime and sediment. It had to be cleaned in order to photograph and allow the viewer to see its honest, original painted surfaces. There are some minor episodes of oxidation and superficial breaks in the paint, which only prove that the piece is in fact an original, period one and not a later reproduction and which, still features its original black painted surface. There are no repairs and no significant damage to report. It’s stunning, exceedingly rare and in about more or less the same condition it was in, oh say, about 135-140 years ago, which in and of itself, is simply remarkable. Found along with another painted’Punch & Judy’ large, 12 door stop from the same estate on the North Shore of Massachusetts. Honest, straight and as right as rain. Magnificent & top shelf.
