This is a wonderful example of a John Graham Canvasback from the Upper Bay of the Chesapeake Bay. John Graham was born and lived in Charlestown, Maryland (1822 – 1912) located up above the Susquehanna River. This great old Cast Iron Sinkbox Decoy is in exceptional condition without any cracks or repairs. It has its original finish although there is some age related pitting. It has a Solid Body with a great aged patina. This Antique piece of Cast Iron is quite heavy weighing over 18 pounds. It measures 13 inches long, 5 1/2 inches in height and 6 1/4 inches in width. A primitive, figural Cast Iron Duck Decoy painted as a Mallard Drake, 6L, ca. This is a solid, full-figured casting that resembles a miniature Sink Box weight. Quite heavy; probably for use as a Doorstop or Paperweight. Retains original painted surface. Unmarked, but with nearly identical paint scheme, size, etc. Oxidation noted on areas with paint loss, as shown. There is a possible repair on the lower third of the bill (a very faint line is visible under high resolution); see close-ups.
