Really Nice Vintage/Antique English Setter Pointer Door Stop. Approx: 15″ L x 8.5″ H x 4 W (rear paws), 8.5 lbs. Great look to this old English Setter or Pointer cast iron Door Stop. Just enough patina and wear to give him great antique display appeal, but overall in really nice shape with 90% plus paint intact. Many sellers identify these as “Hubley”, but we do not believe it to be so, the Hubley ones produced in 1930’s had more refined detail to fur etc, but were almost the exact size. This model however looks as nice as the Hubley’s in our opinion but is priced at under half of what many of those sell for. We are not sure exactly when this was made but we obtained from a high end collector’s sale. Doorstops were mostly popular from the 1940’s and back and some into the 1950’s, so this likely predates that. We photographed from all sides and in slightly different light settings. Classic Cast Iron Setter or Pointer dog art doorstop or bookend. This dog is clearly working and has a business like expression as he points to his bird. He has aged condition, patina and paint loss. Still with great markings; a great addition for any dog lover. Measuring 8″ high x 15 1/2″ long from muzzle to tail, weighs 8 pounds 6 ounces. The fine textural details in the mold such as ridges for the straight out tail and true facial features, the painted accents portray this as a fine quality reproduction showing Phillips head crews. The edges are all smooth. No hallmark to be seen. Two soft no scrape pads on hind feet are removable. The dog is in vintage condition. The old white and black paint is all original. There is paint loss due to the cast iron coming through the paint. Structurally, the dog is in good, sturdy condition. No breaks, cracks, or signs of repair/repainting. Description: Antique cast iron doorstop cast in the form of a full figured Cocker Spaniel. The dog is standing on all four legs with his tail stretched up and his head turned to the side. The doorstop is painted in white with black highlights on the dog’s back, ears and around his eyes. The dog’s ears are down as is typical with spaniel breeds. The dog is wearing a thin red collar which does not completely go around his neck. The dog’s eyes are nicely colored with reddish yellow surrounding a large black pupil. The piece is very well cast as you can see. Look at the details of his face, the fur on his ears, and the details of the fur over his entire body. The door stop is made of two parts held together with at least one screw, which we can see near the back close to the tail. It would seem that it should have a second screw but such a screw is not obvious. The one screw that we can see appears not to have been unscrewed in the past and we decided not to try to unscrew it to verify the existence of marks on the inside. The piece appears to be all original with quite a bit of its original paint remaining but having quite a bit of losses to the paint. This is a nice size piece and weighs about 6 pounds and 10 ounces. Please view photos as they are part and parcel of the description. Date: Uncertain, but most likely sometime in the early to mid 1900s. Size: Measures 7″ in height, 11″ in length from end to end, and is 4 1/2 at its widest. The doorstop weighs about 6 pounds and 10 ounces. Marks: Unmarked on the outside. Distinguishing Characteristics – Most Interesting About The Piece: This is definitely a nice substantial antique doorstop. It would make a great addition to your collection. Condition: This doorstop is in very good condition with no breaks or repairs. It is all original and retains quite a bit of its original paint (>70%). It does have paint losses especially on the back, the rump, the paws, and the face. The only issue we see is the red collar which appears to have been repainted and does not go all around the neck. Antique Cast Iron Doorstop Black and White Painted Full Figure Cocker Spaniel. For Your Antique Cast Iron Doorstop Collection-Spaniel1. Description: Antique cast iron doorstop cast in the form of a full figured Cocker Spaniel. The dog is standing on all four legs with his tail stretched up and his head turned to the side. The doorstop is painted in white with black highlights on the dog’s back, ears and around his eyes. The dog’s ears are down as is typical with spaniel breeds. The dog is wearing a thin red collar which does not completely go around his neck. The dog’s eyes are nicely colored with reddish yellow surrounding a large black pupil. The piece is very well cast as you can see. Look at the details of his face, the fur on his ears, and the details of the fur over his entire body. The door stop is made of two parts held together with at least one screw, which we can see near the back close to the tail. It would seem that it should have a second screw but such a screw is not obvious. The one screw that we can see appears not to have been unscrewed in the past and we decided not to try to unscrew it to verify the existence of marks on the inside. The piece appears to be all original with quite a bit of its original paint remaining but having quite a bit of losses to the paint. This is a nice size piece and weighs about 6 pounds and 10 ounces. Please view photos as they are part and parcel of the description. Date: Uncertain, but most likely sometime in the early to mid 1900s. Size: Measures 7″ in height, 11″ in length from end to end, and is 4 1/2 at its widest. The doorstop weighs about 6 pounds and 10 ounces. Marks: Unmarked on the outside. Distinguishing Characteristics – Most Interesting About The Piece: This is definitely a nice substantial antique doorstop. It would make a great addition to your collection. Condition: This doorstop is in very good condition with no breaks or repairs. It is all original and retains quite a bit of its original paint (>70%). It does have paint losses especially on the back, the rump, the paws, and the face. The only issue we see is the red collar which appears to have been repainted and does not go all around the neck.
