Antique Early 1900’s Black Cat Cast Iron Mountable Door Stop Boot Scraper. Raised Tail Early Design Estate Fresh! Created with the early design with the cat having a raised tail, defined whiskers, pointy ears and deep set eyes, it measures approx. 17″ long by 10-1/2″ tall and 2-1/2 wide. There are four mounting holes along the base, two on each side with no apparent losses or restorations to the structure. There is appropriate age wear with losses to the original finish and oxidation, a few drops of paint along the back side of the feline and heavy oxidation to the bottom of the base. Please please be aware that leaving anything less than 5 stars is seen as below standard. A very rare original early Victorian COALBROOKDALE CAST IRON DOOR STOP / FIRE PLACE DECORATION. Made from iron smeltered in Coalbrookdales own blast furnace which was the first of its kind during the 1700s when the companies founder first invented the process. Shaped with lioness or panther type large cat set amongst foliage, vines etc. Is fully marked to reverse. THE COALBROOKDALE COMPANY REGISTERED OCTOBER 28th 1841, No 895. There is a very old 19th century repair plate to the back of the piece had strengthens a couple of cracks to the stem, although the piece was NOT broken completely across in two pieces. Obviously this repair was done by a very skilled blacksmith with hammered rivets through the piece. The plate does obscure the outline of a small section of the upper stem but i think the repair is a piece of art in itself. So highly regarded was this particular piece that the repair was undertaken. Size: 38 x 17 x 7.5 cms. Condition: Is in total original aged condition with no over painting – some minor surface rust and wear and that repair plate to the back of the stem (see pics). With good packing available. Marquise De Lafayette Cast Iron Door Stop – PEG BACK – ALL ORIGINAL. Lafayette – Served under George Washington as a Major General during the American Revolution. This doorstop is an original US foundary doorstop made in his honor. This piece is significant as it is all original in paint & with peg holed base and at mid section. His sword was added after casting – because of its delicate nature to prevent breakage during casting. Reverse is full and 1/2 cast – see pics. He is 11-5/8 ” tall Base is 5 -1/4 ” Widest point 6-3/8. Weighing 5lbs 6 oz. Stands proper – rare item in excellent antique condition. Some paint wear – no major damage – no signs of repair – just terrific. Part of a larger collection containing Early Authentic Judd’s, Hubleys, National Foundry’s and more. It is the middle decoy in the group picture. The measurements are approximate sizes. It is 13 1/2″ long by 6 1/2″ wide and 5 tall. It weighs 20 1/2 pounds. The duck looks like a redhead drake to me. I found these decoys in an old Elkton MD Estate so I assume they are locally made for the Chesapeake Bay region. The paint looks original and is in good condition with paint loss and rust spots. See all of the pictures as they are intended to be used as part of the items desription. I don’t know for sure who painted these or if they are even done by the same maker. After doing a little research on the interweb I think some of the possible makers could be John McKinney, Paul Gibson, John Holly or John Graham. The free listing tool.
