This is a wonderful example of a John Graham Canvasback from the Upper Bay of the Chesapeake Bay. John Graham was born and lived in Charlestown, Maryland (1822 – 1912) located up above the Susquehanna River. Vintage Cast Iron Doorstop USA Spread Wing Eagle Standing Two American Flags. For Your Old Ptriotic Cast Iron Doorstop Collection-EagleFlags1. Description: A vintage painted cast iron doorstop cast in the form of an American eagle standing with his wings spread open. There are to American flags emanating from the top of his head. There are the letters USA below its feet along the edge of the base. The eagle is looking to its right with the flags forming a V above its head. The doorstop is painted in green color with golden highlights throughout. The base of the door stop is red in color while the flags are in red, white and blue. The piece is very well cast as you can see. Look at the details of the feathers in the wings and the body. Look at the details on the eagle’s face where the bill and eyes depict a stern look. The piece, which is probably no more than twenty or thirty years old, is all original and retaining all of its original paint with minimal losses. There are a couple of small paint chips on the edge of the base and some rust spots on the bottom of the base. This is a nice size piece and weighs over three pounds.
