Antique Cast Iron House of Seven Gables Doorstop

Antique Cast Iron House of Seven Gables Doorstop. Rather rare & desirable doorstop designed by Sarah Symonds. Shown in “The Doorstop Book” By John & Nancy Smith on page 235. The House of the Seven Gables is a colonial mansion in Salem, Massachusetts. The House was built in 1668 by Captain John Turner. The mansion was made famous by Nathaniel Hawthorne’s book, “The House of Seven Gables” written in 1850. The Book’s Setting was inspired by Hawthorne’s cousin Susanna Ingersoll who once owned the house and by Hawthorne’s other ancestors who had played a role in the Salem Witch Trials of 1692. Sarah Symonds once had a gift shop across from the House of Seven Gables. This Doorstop was made to commemorate its restoration in 1909. Very good to excellent condition with minor paint loss. All original, has not been re-touched. Measures 8 1/2 inches long, 4 3/4 inches tall and weighs 6.2 lbs. DESCRIPTION This is the more desirable version of the H L Judd Cos Dapper Dan doorstop with the heavier base that does not take a wedge. CONDITION Exceptional original condition. This is estate fresh and has NOT been cleaned, preserving the delicate paint found on this design. There is minimal wear as seen and no repairs or touch-ups. 1920’s CAST IRON BEAR FORM DOORSTOP LOOKS LIKE INUIT / ESKIMO CARVING

Very rare and quite wonderful, 1920’s Cast Iron Doorstop in the form of a Bear and resembling an Inuit Soapstone Carving. This massive Doorstop weighs almost 10 lbs and retains the vast majority of its original paint. This outstanding, Figural Doorstop measures approx. 5 1/2 tall to the top of the Bear’s shoulders and 4 1/2″ by 4″ at the base. It depicts the stylized Bear form standing on all four feet atop a “sloped”, 2 level step form base. Original black surface paint covers all surfaces and the Doorstop and the Bear both resemble an Eskimo / Inuit Soapstone Carving. While we have owned hundreds of Figural Cast Iron Doorstops over the past 37+ years, we have never even seen an example of this wonderful Bear Form Doorstop. We believe it to be exceptionally rare! This rare and quite wonderful, early 20th century Figural Bear Cast Iron Doorstop is in very good condition. There are no crack, breaks, chips, repairs or physical damage to the cast iron. The Doorstop retains the vast majority of its original, black surface paint as can be seen in the scans below. The surface paint is 100% original and the Doorstop has never been restored, repainted, touched up or altered in any way. X Large ANTIQUE HUBLEY CAST IRON FOX TERRIER DOG STATUE SCULPTURE DOORSTOP

A handsome study of a wire fox terrier poised in a show quality position. This wonderful door stop has been crafted in a heavy cast iron and weighs just shy of 9 pounds. A purists dream with its all original paint and what has been lost with the passage of time. Although unmarked as most were we attribute this stop to Hubley. Measures 10 3/8 from nose to tail 10 inches in height. Condition as stated is all original with loss of paint mostly down his back, neck and head… Remnants of a thin red collar noted.
