An attractive art nouveau doorstop of a woman holding her dress wide. Cast iron with a dark copper wash; a magnet sticks to the surface. Made in the United States about 1925, most likely by H. The doorstop has the code 1251 embossed on the center of the back side but it has no Judd shop mark. The doorstop, painted, is listed in John C. Smith’s The Doorstop Book (2006) on p. 191, where it is titled Deco Girl. It is also listed as a pair of bookends in Kuritzky and De Costa’s Collector’s Encyclopedia of Bookends (2006) on p. The surface of the doorstop is original and in pretty good condition. It has small rubbed/abrasion spots at one thigh, the waist, and the stomach; a small white spot on the right skirt; and what might be polish residue in the dress folds to the left of the woman’s waist. These flaws are unobtrusive in normal light and. Are hard to photograph. They show up best in photograph 5. Or other damage to the doorstop. He felt on the bottom is a replacement.
