At last, here’s your chance to own the Ever-Elusive, 1930’s, Hubley, Cast Iron, Variant (One-Color), Dachshund – Number 326. It is being offered with NO RESERVE! This Depression-era doorstop was listed in Hubley’s 1939 Catalog as – ” ADOLPH, THE DACHSHUND ” and is described as having the Typical Likeness of a Comical, Old, German, Sausage Poodle. Among Hubley dog doorstops, the Dachshund is generally considered to be one of the more difficult breeds to acquire. The fact that Hubley’s Dachshund was produced in relatively low numbers (comparatively speaking), coupled with a broad interest and robust demand for dog doorstops (in general), helps to explain why the Hubley Dachshund is a particularly rare find, and why the “326” is coveted by avid doorstop collectors and dog-enthusiasts, alike. Typically, Hubley painted their Dachshund doorstop in the usual black and dark brown color-combination. But this highly desirable, light-to-medium-brown variant is more scarce; it was executed using a single color, not two! Additionally, this adorable Dachshund retains approximately 85-90% of its original painted coat, and has not been repainted or “touched up” in any way. In some areas, where the brown painted surface is thin or has encountered wear, a whitish-colored hue is prevalent. Paint chips/loss are indiscriminately scattered throughout this purebred, but primarily on top part of head, spine (along tight seam), feet, and spots on right half (posterior stance) of dog. Notwithstanding the obvious signs of wear, the condition of this 3 pound 2.6 ounce doorstop is still good, overall, and speaks volumes in terms of its quality, despite its many years of use. Cosmetically, while this doorstop is far from pristine, its rarity more than compensates for its less-than-perfect paint. Its exposed metal surface has oxidized in the areas where there is paint loss. However, this casted, two-piece Doxie has no damage or repairs. It is marked (cast-incised) “MADE IN USA” in uppercase print behind right, front leg (on chest).
