This was part of an older New England Estate that contained over a dozen or so of these late 1800’s to early 1900’s Antique Cast Iron Door Stops and I was able to aquire what I thought was these best one of the bunch as far as cats go. This is not a cheap repo it’s the real deal cast like most were in the 1900’s-1920’s when these where all the craze. I cannot compare it to another as far as paint work, but from the looks of the base the way it’s painted-mimicking a carpet-I would assume it’s original. Please you the High Definition Image option to look at the surfaces of this beauty and you can see the aging to the carpet paint and other painted surfaces etc. I cannot be sure if any other area’s have been retouched etc. But I can say it sure is a beauty and you would be hard pressed to find another quite like it. I wouldn’t think a company would go through all the trouble of casting such a beauty and not have artist decorate/paint what there design should look like with color. If you look at the thick oval metal base which is over a 1/4 inch thick(see pics)-you can see that when it’s up against your door the back portion of the base will be under your door giving it a sturdy hold where it won’t just flop over on you. I have not cleaned it, it is in as found condition with yes it has some aging to all surface’s as it should and some dust around base etc. The bottom is in it’s original metal form with no felt etc. But what I did-was trace a piece of green soft felt with one side sticky peel back so if you wanted to apply it to the base when you got it you could, this way it would slide across your floor-if and when you wanted to close the door without marking up the floor. It will come with it in a clear zip lock back with cat and as I said you can leave it bare metal or apply the green felt.
