Antique Cast Iron Doorstop Hawk Standing on Brown Perch. For Your Antique Cast Iron Doorstop Collection-Hawk1. Description: A very nice antique cast iron doorstop. The doorstop is cast in the form of a hawk perched on what appears to be brown rock with large leaves next to it. The hawk is standing on the perch with his tail pointing down and its head looking slightly downwards. The hawk is gray in color with a yellow beak, yellow talons, and blackeyes. The base as well as the perch are colored in brown. The piece retains most of its original paint with some losses to the front of the beak, the edge of the base, and a few small spots throughout the body of the piece. The back of the doorstop has brown coloring and is stamped 78 at the bottom edge. A great looking piece worthy of a spot in your collection. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of the description. Date: Uncertain but most likely early to mid 1900s (early to mid 20th century). Size: Measures 6″ in height with the base measuring 4 1/8″ by 2 3/4. The piece weighs slightly over 2 pounds and one ounce. Marks: Marked with the stamped number “78” on the back at the bottom edge. Distinguishing Characteristics – Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a nice old doorstop in excellent condition and retaining most of its original paint. A beautiful piece which would display very well in your collection of doorstops. Condition: This doorstop is in very good condition with no breaks or repairs. It retains quite a bit of its original paint with some losses (estimated at better than 98%). Most of the paint losses are front of the beak and the edge of the base as well as additional minor paint losses throughout. The piece is a bit soiled and would probably benefit for a good cleaning. It does have some minor rust signs to the bottom of the base. It also lost one of the four round pieces of felt affixed to the bottom of the base. Be that as it may, the piece is just great looking and would display very well in your collection. Please see photos for additional condition information. RARE HUBLEY CAST IRON ADOLPH DACHSHUND WIENER DOG DOORSTOP # 326 BROWN METAL DOG. At last, here’s your chance to own the Ever-Elusive, 1930’s, Hubley, Cast Iron, Variant (One-Color), Dachshund – Number 326. It is being offered with NO RESERVE! This Depression-era doorstop was listed in Hubley’s 1939 Catalog as – ” ADOLPH, THE DACHSHUND ” and is described as having the Typical Likeness of a Comical, Old, German, Sausage Poodle. Among Hubley dog doorstops, the Dachshund is generally considered to be one of the more difficult breeds to acquire. The fact that Hubley’s Dachshund was produced in relatively low numbers (comparatively speaking), coupled with a broad interest and robust demand for dog doorstops (in general), helps to explain why the Hubley Dachshund is a particularly rare find, and why the “326” is coveted by avid doorstop collectors and dog-enthusiasts, alike. Typically, Hubley painted their Dachshund doorstop in the usual black and dark brown color-combination. But this highly desirable, light-to-medium-brown variant is more scarce; it was executed using a single color, not two! Additionally, this adorable Dachshund retains approximately 85-90% of its original painted coat, and has not been repainted or “touched up” in any way. In some areas, where the brown painted surface is thin or has encountered wear, a whitish-colored hue is prevalent. Paint chips/loss are indiscriminately scattered throughout this purebred, but primarily on top part of head, spine (along tight seam), feet, and spots on right half (posterior stance) of dog. Notwithstanding the obvious signs of wear, the condition of this 3 pound 2.6 ounce doorstop is still good, overall, and speaks volumes in terms of its quality, despite its many years of use. Cosmetically, while this doorstop is far from pristine, its rarity more than compensates for its less-than-perfect paint. Its exposed metal surface has oxidized in the areas where there is paint loss. However, this casted, two-piece Doxie has no damage or repairs. It is marked (cast-incised) “MADE IN USA” in uppercase print behind right, front leg (on chest). Antique Cast Iron Doorstop Full Figure Horse Tan and Brown Color. For Your Antique Cast Iron Doorstop Collection-Horse1. Description: Antique cast iron doorstop cast in the form of a full figured Horse. The horse is standing on all four legs with his tail curved and resting on its hind leg. The doorstop is painted in tan color with brown highlights on top of the horse’s back and mane. The horse’s ears are standing up and his head is turned a bit sideways. The piece is very well cast as you can see. Look at the details of the face, the rib cage, the mane’s hair, and the details of the tail. The door stop is made of two parts held together with at least one screw, which we can see under the paint. Since the screw is covered with the original paint, we did not attempt to open the horse to see the inside. The one screw that we can see appears not to have been unscrewed in the past and we decided not to try to unscrew it to verify the existence of marks on the inside. The piece appears to be all original with quite a bit of its original paint remaining but having losses to the paint. This is a nice size piece and weighs over 6 pounds and 6 ounces. See page 152 in John and Nancy Smith’s book “The Doorstop Book” published by Schiffer Books of Atglen PA in 2006 for a similar example. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of the description. Date: Uncertain, but most likely sometime in the early to mid 1900s. Size: Measures 10 1/2″ in height, 12″ in length from end to end, and is 3 1/4 at its widest. The doorstop weighs over 6 pounds and 6 ounces. Maker: Uncertain but most likely Hubley. Marks: Unmarked on the outside. Distinguishing Characteristics – Most Interesting About The Piece: This is definitely a nice substantial antique doorstop. It would make a great addition to your collection. Condition: This doorstop is in very good condition with no breaks or repairs. It is all original and retains quite a bit of its original paint (>85%). It does have paint losses especially on the back, the mane, the tail, and the face.
