Antique Cast Iron Doorstop Full Figure Horse Tan and Brown Color. For Your Antique Cast Iron Doorstop Collection-Horse1. Description: Antique cast iron doorstop cast in the form of a full figured Horse. The horse is standing on all four legs with his tail curved and resting on its hind leg. The doorstop is painted in tan color with brown highlights on top of the horse’s back and mane. The horse’s ears are standing up and his head is turned a bit sideways. The piece is very well cast as you can see. Look at the details of the face, the rib cage, the mane’s hair, and the details of the tail. The door stop is made of two parts held together with at least one screw, which we can see under the paint. Since the screw is covered with the original paint, we did not attempt to open the horse to see the inside. The one screw that we can see appears not to have been unscrewed in the past and we decided not to try to unscrew it to verify the existence of marks on the inside. The piece appears to be all original with quite a bit of its original paint remaining but having losses to the paint. This is a nice size piece and weighs over 6 pounds and 6 ounces. See page 152 in John and Nancy Smith’s book “The Doorstop Book” published by Schiffer Books of Atglen PA in 2006 for a similar example. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of the description. Date: Uncertain, but most likely sometime in the early to mid 1900s. Size: Measures 10 1/2″ in height, 12″ in length from end to end, and is 3 1/4 at its widest. The doorstop weighs over 6 pounds and 6 ounces. Maker: Uncertain but most likely Hubley. Marks: Unmarked on the outside. Distinguishing Characteristics – Most Interesting About The Piece: This is definitely a nice substantial antique doorstop. It would make a great addition to your collection. Condition: This doorstop is in very good condition with no breaks or repairs. It is all original and retains quite a bit of its original paint (>85%). It does have paint losses especially on the back, the mane, the tail, and the face. The paint is also a bit dried-up and as such easily flakes off in some spots. Be that as it may, the piece is beautiful and worthy of a spot in your collection. Nice Antique Hubley Boston Terrier in Black or Deep Brown & Tan. Lancaster PA, Approx: 8.75″ H x 8.25″ L x 3.5 Wide (at feet), 4 lbs, 10 Ounce. From Collector’s Estate, Rarer Mid Sized Black & Tan. Awesome Rarer Mid Sized Cast Iron Hubley Boston Terrier Door Stop. Perfect patina & look! From our research this is one of the rarer of the Hubley Boston Terriers. They made these in many versions and sizes, this one is slightly smaller than many of the larger ones. The last picture in gallery shows this Terrier next to a 9.5 High one (not included in this sale) and there were some even larger. We believe this is usually just called the “Black and Tan (or cream)” color, but to us it looks like there is some deep brown in it as well. It appears to be original all over and does not appear to ever have been taken apart as screw in back is either heavy glue or weld filled in, as no slot is visible. There are the classic file marks and imperfections noted in these authentic pieces as well. This was from a selective collector’s estate. Please look over all pictures taken for your consideration. We shot from all angles and in different lighting to give you a better feel for the piece. This sale is for the single cast iron (facing right) door stop shown in all pictures, the other picture with 2 door stops is for size reference only (although the other is for sale elsewhere in our store). Nice detail to this older Hubley. Hubley made so many varieties of the Boston Terriers that they become hard to tell subtle differences. Of course, the size is the first indicator, but that can tricky as well depending whoever is measuring and exactly how. Then comes subtle differences in details. This one is easiest to identify by the gaze of the eyes and there is a little neck skin bunching at collar (at least for me this is the best way). Of course, rib lines, ear shape and other are observable as well. Great look to this old Hubley. Each of those sales had the same features as noted above. Brown Thoroughbred Horse with Horseshoes. This is a fabulously detailed and well-preserved Hubley Cast Iron Thoroughbred Horse Doorstop in dark brown paint. This horse is in excellent vintage condition and. He has original paint which has retained its original gloss and with very little paint loss. This horse is unique in that he has carefully ridged and painted horseshoes on his feet. The original flat head screws are in neck and belly and still covered by paint. This is a vintage cast iron boxer dog doorstop, made by Hubley. HEIGHT = 8 1/2 inches. WIDTH = 9 inches. This is a 2 piece doorstop held together with 2 screws going thru one half threading into the other half. The screw heads are filled and painted over. The screw head is very faint on the left side of the left rib cage. Scuffs and wear on body, edges of ears, nose, see pictures. Otherwise in excellent shape for age.
