The castings of the foundries of old, to wit, Albany Foundry, Bradley and Hubbard, National Foundry, Hubley, and Judd Company are unrivaled as “works of art” – the amount and degree of detail in those era pieces set them apart from the mass-produced pieces of later years. And, here we have a prime example of one of those early pieces. It’s a well-preserved, nicely detailed, antique, CAST IRON doorstop, exquisitely cast in the form of a SPANISH GIRL, expertly crafted by LACS. This none-too-often-seen doorstop is referenced in Jeanne Bertoia’s book, “Doorstops”, at page 33. She is definitely reminiscent of the appeal for the Spanish motifs of the Art Deco period. Although timeworn and naturally aged, this lovely piece VIVIDLY retains NEARLY ALL of its ORIGINAL, POLYCHROME PAINT, with its detailing colors yet VIBRANT and RICHLY TONED! There is no spray painting here; it’s ALL HAND-PAINTED! Attesting to its age, there is chipping and wear to its original paint. And, where that chipping and wear does occur, it is followed by the exposure of the welcomed, base coat, or that telltale, yet coveted, mahogany patina/hue of the exposed iron, that can only be brought about by age. None of the foregoing affects the integrity of the piece, but merely evidences its ANTIQUE character. The EXTRAORDINARY AND SPLENDID DETAIL of this EXCEPTIONALLY SMOOTH CASTING shines through in the masterful, physical attributes and proportionment of the young lady herself; in her incredibly detailed and elaborate garb, including her fitted bodice and waistband, her flowing, long skirt, her elegant fan, and her requisite peineta (hair comb), with the wonderfully enticing mantilla; as well as in the 5-sided plinth/base, upon which she prances. SUCH MASTERY OF DETAIL IS UNRIVALLED IN THIS AGE! 760 – see the relevant scans. Rendering a STUNNINGLY IMPRESSIVE PRESENCE, it’s hefty, weighing nearly 4 1/2 lbs. And measures, approximately, 10 inches Tall, 5 1/2 inches Wide (from the edge of her delicate hand to the edge of her coquettish fan), and 2 inches Deep. Remnants of some sort of soft covering still adhere to its underside. Rare Pair ANTIQUE CAST IRON CHAMPION GREYHOUND Whippet Dog Doorstop Andirons

Rare Pair ANTIQUE CAST IRON CHAMPION GREYHOUND Whippet Dog Doorstop Andirons. Offered for sale is this great pair of antique cast iron greyhounds. They are Victorian, the greyhounds are both champions of England’s coursing Waterloo Cup – Colonel North’s Fullerton (who won in 1889, 1890, 1891, and 1892) and Fearless Footsteps (who won in 1900 and 1901). I think they were intended to be doorstops or andiron guards. Please excuse the reflections in the pictures. SIZE: They are just over 10.25 inhces long, and are approximately 8 inches tall. They weigh approximately three and a half pounds each. CONDITION: There is wear to the paint and some corrosion most notably on the bottoms. Please see the close up pictures. MARKS: There are no maker’s marks, but one is titled “COL NORTHS FULLERTON” and the other “FEARLESS FOOTSTEPS” as shown. L photos below can be enlarged by clicking on them. Antique Cast Iron Lion Door Stop. This wonderful antique cast iron lion door stop shows a male lion perched up on a decorative wall standing on back legs, leaning on piece coming out of the wall. This piece is 15 inches high, the base is 10 inches by 3 inches and is in very good condition with no breaks or damages of any kind. It has great detail, especially on the wall and the head, mane and the tongue sticking out. One doesn’t find many of these hanging around. NR Antique Painted Cast Iron Duck Decoy Sinkbox Doorstop Paperweight Folk Art

A primitive, figural Cast Iron Duck Decoy painted as a Mallard Drake, 6L, ca. This is a solid, full-figured casting that resembles a miniature Sink Box weight. Quite heavy; probably for use as a Doorstop or Paperweight. Retains original painted surface. Unmarked, but with nearly identical paint scheme, size, etc. Oxidation noted on areas with paint loss, as shown. There is a possible repair on the lower third of the bill (a very faint line is visible under high resolution); see close-ups. Quite charming and very folky; highly-appropriate for any decoy enthusiast or collection of Americana. See photos for complete details and please consider them as part of the description. Antique 1920’s HUBLEY CAST IRON HORSE DOOR STOP FIGURINE withORIG COLD PAINT TOY

This is a two piece cast iron horse and has the original screws to hold the pieces together. Horse has the original cold paint. Overall condition is very nice for its age. Has some wear to the paint as seen in the photos. The cast iron has no cracks, small chip on one of the ears, no other chips or broken pieces and no repairs. 10 1/2″ tall by 12 1/8″ long. Weight is 6 1/2 pounds unpacked. Rare Hubley cast iron toy and is a must for any collector. Found at a recent 90 year estate and has been safely stored away. The glare spots are from the lights reflection and NOT on the actual surface of the item(color is great). Tough item to find and is a must for any collector. I have taken detailed photos to show you the detail of this original item. Please see my other auctions for other great vintage items from the same estate.
