Rare Early 20th C Vint Aunt Jemima Black Americana Cast Iron Doorstop Orig Paint

RARE EARLY 20TH CENTURY ANTIQUE’AUNT JEMIMA’ BLACK AME RIC ANA MONUMENTAL UPRIGHT CAST IRON DOORSTOP W/ORIGINAL. Late 19th-early 20th century figurative cast iron doorstops. 13″ Height x 8″ Width 3 ¼ Depth. Offered is this superb and one of the very best late 19th to early 20th century antique Ame ri can hand painted cast iron Aunt Jemima monumental doorstops at least I have ever seen. What makes it special is not only its very large, even monumental size at 13 inches in height, but the wonderful sculptural features that remain crisp and clear and not obscured by later enamel paint, which almost always buries the figurative details of the form in the viscous, thick enamel oil paint. This monumental doorstop now reads as pure Ame ri can folk art sculpture, with its original painted surfaces and remains unbastardized, untouched and undisturbed. That and that alone is enough to make this piece of turn-of- the-century Black Americana interesting enough, never mind the exemplary and extraordinary original painted surfaces. Without any demonstrable flea-bites to its edges, deep abrasions, dents or dings and really without any other kind of deformities that a drop or serious tumble might have caused. It’s nearly flawless and only shows the normal depreciating effects of time. It was discovered on the South Shore of Massachusetts and is estate-fresh and fresh to the marketplace, never having been seen outside of the home where it was found. Not only an extraordinary Ame ri can antique but an extraordinary Ame ri can cultural artifact. Very rare in this kind of well-preserved, untouched, unadulterated original condition. One killer antique painted Aunt Jemima cast iron doorstop. Good to Very Good overall antique condition. Genuine Antique Cast Iron Hubley Sitting Persian Cat Doorstop Marked Original

Hubley was famous for their wonderful cast iron toys, doorstops and book ends. Their creations are true Americana! This Hubley sitting Persian cat cast iron doorstop is documented as being somewhat rare. It is one of the larger Hubley cat doorstops weighing 5.6 pounds and having a height of just over 9. The doorstop has two Hubley markings inside near the base (see red arrows in the photos). I could not find a marked number but it may be a model #302. The doorstop was made circa 1900 – 1920. This doorstop appears in several reference books about cast iron doorstops. The Persian cat is painted gray, brown and white. The cat has blue eyes and pink in the ears & mouth (tongue). There is a wonderful expression on the face of the cat. The position of the body is lovely and realistic. The paint appears to be original and untouched. Please note the condition of the paint on the face of the cat, especially the nose area. It has minimal paint damage & loss. Most doorstops of this cat that I have seen suffer much paint loss around the nose perhaps from doors banging into the nose. The doorstop has typical wear found on these old cast iron doorstops including wear to the paint, chips, rust, scrapes, dirt and scratches. It has not been altered by me by waxing, washing, touching up or anything else. I only used the Persian cat doorstop for display in my Americana collection. The cat has not been used as a doorstop for the last 50 years. I believe the condition of the paint is very good or better compared to similar cast iron doorstops. The aged wear and patina on the paint is part of the great charm for these American treasures from the past. I have not ever cleaned the doorstop outside. Materials: Cast iron & paint. Design: Sitting Persian cat. Colors: Gray, brown, white, blue, pink. Weight: 5.6 pounds. Markings: Two “Hubley” markings inside.
