All Original Paint on both the jockey and the horse. According to a reprint of a Hubley Catalog, this outstanding Hubley Large Toy or Doorstop was manufactured in 1931 by the Hubley Mfg. Company of Lancaster, PA. Hubley lists this wonderful Cast Iron Thoroughbred Horse and J. Ockey as Catalog # 322 in their 1931 Hubley Catalog. Hubley describes their horses as All realistic models of true thoroughbreds. This Antique Cast Iron Hubley Thoroughbred Race Horse is Chestnut (reddish-brown) in color with a White Star on her Forehead and she has black hooves. There is a racing saddle which is raised up slightly on the back of the race horse which is a somewhat darker brown color. This great cast iron piece is in Excellent Condition without any cracks, chips or repairs to the metal. The Chestnut paint is pretty much intact with the exception of some age and use related missing paint flecked off here and there. The original gold rope or reins, which go into holes on either side of the horse’s mouth, are in perfect condition. The Cast Iron Jockey is a separate piece of cast iron and he sits atop the race horse in a riding position wearing Green & Orange Racing Colors or Silks – beige pants. Green and orange polka dot riding cap and shirt, and black boots. In his right hand, he holds the riding crop or whip painted black. His face is painted in flesh tones. There are a couple of areas of age-related and use missing paint. Overall, I would say the original paint is about 95% – excellent for a old cast iron toy or doorstop. All of the seams are smooth, tight and secure. If you look closely, you can see the area where there is an original screw on the side of the horse which holds the two portions of the cast iron horse in place. The screw is completely painted over with the original chestnut color paint. There is also a screw holding the two portions of the jockey together as well which is painted over with the green and polka dot paint. The racehorse is fairly large measuring 5 inches in height and 5 1/2 inches in length. The jockey measures 2 3/4 inches in heights, and 1 3/4 inches across at the widest portion of his feet and legs. Hubley’s attention to the detail of both the thoroughbred horse and jockey in likeness and quality cannot be denied.
