There are foundry marks on back of the piece which are worn and very hard to read. The vintage cast metal door stop shows wear consistent with its age and use including loss to the paint, rusting on the back, dings, nicks, and scratches. RARE PAIR NUMBERED HUBLEY CAST IRON TWIN LION CAT BOOKENDS ORIGINAL PAINT…. These are clearly marked with a number 273 on each base and a c within a circle on the other side of the bases. They much have the sleek minimalist styling of some Hubley Foundry line of bookends and doorstops i have seen but the markings indicate they also could be Connecticut or Albany Foundry. They are twin doorstops, i believe, due to each weighing over 8 pounds. Although they also could be bookends. They are guaranteed all original. And this black paint is all origanal. You can tell by the fact that, where chipped, no other paint shows and the cast iron underneath is that deep ruby red brown s hi owing the age, lovely. I love the entire look of this piece, the lions mane is incredible, the overall patina & multi-color tones of the aged iron is superb! This could be used as a bookend. The small vertical rod on the backside I trimmed off about 1/4 inch to allow this to stand straight & stable. Perfect for any collection or display with any decor, it is a statement piece!
