A good quality and unusual 19th century cast iron door stop / weight, with a silvered recumbent lion, well-modelled and full of character! Number’5′ mark on the base. The item weighs 2.15kg, or just under 4lb 12oz. One theory is that this was a 5lb weight which has lost some filling? There is also an etched arrow on the bottom edge which could be a broad arrow signifying government property. Good original antique condition. Some natural surface wear commensurate with age. Some tiny specs of paint from decorating but could easily be cleaned off if desired. Measures 20cm length x 9cm width x 7.5cm height. This is a very HEAVY cast iron recumbent LION… Very Royal & Regal if ever there was an item…. It is painted a red oxide like colour…. It could of course be painted any colour.. Say for instance you owned the RED LION – BLUE LION – WHITE LION pub or inn etc… Or any number of other theme bars, nightclubs or whatever… Or if you just want a substantial DOOR STOP.. This is the one for you. Its a flat back cast….. I do not know the age of it.. It has NO makers names on it etc… Or foundry marks as far as I can see. If you want to come and collect the item its cash on collection only…… If you are overseas you must appreciate this will have to be sent to you GLOBAL PRIORITY and that service is not cheap…. But its safe , secure and quick. This one is priced to sell…. And will find a new home soon enough. The lion is 28 inch long x 14 inch tall and the moulding is 14 and quarter inch wide from the back edge to the lions nose….. I cannot weigh it as Ive not got scales here large enough… But its not a lightweight as Sir Alan Sugar would say! Ive just compared it to a 4 stone – 56lb weight…. And its about half the weight of one of those.. So about 2 stone it weighs.. See the photographs which enlarge. Please see close up pictures for more detail. Lion Antique Cast Iron Doorstop. This pieces gives you strength, power & royalty feelings, it is a classic! 3/16″x 1/8″ in lower left area, some splits in the cast iron. I love the entire look of this piece, the lions mane is incredible, the overall patina & multi-color tones of the aged iron is superb! This could be used as a bookend. The small vertical rod on the backside I trimmed off about 1/4 inch to allow this to stand straight & stable. Perfect for any collection or display with any decor, it is a statement piece!
