Vintage Cast Iron Doorstop Colorful Heron Standing Albany Foundry Company. For Your Vintage Cast Iron Doorstop Collection. Description: A very nice vintage cast iron doorstop. The doorstop is cast in the form of colorful heron standing. The heron has a gold colored head with some red colored highlights a white eye with black pupil. The heron’s body is colored in blue with gold and red highlights. The bird is standing on what looks like rocks. The doorstop has a flat base and shows the details of the rocks and the bird’s foot. The casting is very well done and shows details of the head, the feathers in the wing, and the details of the rocks. The back of the piece is painted in blue and shows the number “83” and possibly a “6” to its right near the base. The bottom of the base is covered with green felt and shows minor rust spots. A beautiful and rather rare doorstop worthy of a spot in your collection. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of the description. Date: Uncertain but most likely early to mid 20th century. Size: Measures 7 1/2″ in height with the base measuring 5″ by 2 3/8. The piece weighs about 3 pounds. Maker: Albany Foundry Company. Marks: Has the number “83” stamped on the back and possibly the number “6” stamped next to oit near the bottom of the back. This listing is for a single sided cast iron Flower Basket doorstop that is marked 818. I have found 2 others on the internet that were identical with the 818 marking that were documented to be early 20th Century Hubley. They stated that they originally had paper labels above the 818 markings. This door stop measures. Tall ” x 6-1/2″ wide across the base. 7-1/4 wide across the fullest part of the center. It weighs 6 pounds 2 ounces. Good overall condition with some light normal wear to finish. I see no cracks. There are paint runs on the back (see 2 photos showing the backside).
