Painted Cast Iron Doorstop Sink Box Duck Decoy Canvas Back 17lbs/bookend/decor

WE HAVE LEARNED THAT THIS WAS A DUCK. BOOTSCRAPER THAT HAS BEEN RE-MADE INTO. A BOOKEND OR DOOR STOP. Still a beautiful piece, but not what we thought it was. Owner collected decoys, forged iron and vintage hunting gear. This decoy appears to be a canvas back drake. Very nice paint with minor wear and slight rust spots on bottom. Not sure who painted it, no markings. Very heavy, it weighs 17 lbs. 15″ long, 6″ in width and 5 tall. After searching online I was unable to find another example of this Squirrel Doorstop anywhere! The brown, white and black painted surface you see on this Doorstop is guaranteed to be original. There are some small removable white paint specks to the surface, but there are no other problems or any restorations. On the back you can see a maker’s mark which is difficult to read. It is very difficult to see but very faintly along the back of the base it is marked by the Albany Foundry in New York. The polychrome painted surface is guaranteed to be original, but it has darkened over the years. NR Antique Painted Cast Iron Duck Decoy Sinkbox Doorstop Paperweight Folk Art

A primitive, figural Cast Iron Duck Decoy painted as a Mallard Drake, 6L, ca. This is a solid, full-figured casting that resembles a miniature Sink Box weight. Quite heavy; probably for use as a Doorstop or Paperweight. Retains original painted surface. Unmarked, but with nearly identical paint scheme, size, etc. Oxidation noted on areas with paint loss, as shown. There is a possible repair on the lower third of the bill (a very faint line is visible under high resolution); see close-ups. Quite charming and very folky; highly-appropriate for any decoy enthusiast or collection of Americana. See photos for complete details and please consider them as part of the description.
