HUBLEY CAST IRON FRENCH BULLDOG PAPERWEIGHT 2# Boston Terrier Dog Doorstop

RARE – NOT OFTEN SEEN AUTHENTIC ANTIQUE. HUBLEY FRENCH BULLDOG PAPER WEIGHT – DOORSTOP. SMALL Measures 3.5″ tall, 4″ long x 2 wide. Solid Little Fatty Weighs 1# 9oz. Aged Cast Iron stripped of any original paint – white paint looks’added’ to me. No Makers Mark remains, but whether there is a makers mark or not – THIS DOG IS OBVIOUSLY. ORIGINAL be it a Hubley or other competitor of the times like. Spencer, Bradley & Hubbard, and National. I paid a’pretty penny’ for this dog – I’m just trying to recover my investment. I loved the ears and thought it looked like my Frenchie. Always wanted to repaint it but. SEE PHOTOS for BEST DESCRIPTION. I’m slowly dispersing my collectibles from my many years on the planet – now for someone new to enjoy :. FYI HUBLEY’S HISTORY per Wikipedia. The Hubley Manufacturing Company was first incorporated in 1894 in. The first Hubley toys appeared in 1909 and were made of cast-iron, with themes that ranged from horse-drawn vehicles and different breeds of dogs, to tractors, steam shovels and guns. Hubley’s casting process involved several steps. For a particular toy, bookend, or doorstop, metalworkers would first carve a wood form, or hammer out the basic design in metal. Pressing this form into finely compacted sand created an impression for molding. Cast iron heated to 3000 degrees was poured into the sand mold and, when cooled, the form would pop out. Rough edges would be filed away and the mold ready for mass production casting. Painters applied a base coat (usually white or cream but sometimes black) to cast figures whether toys or doorstops. Then, colorists used a variety of hues highlighting important details. Hubley offerings may have represented too broad of a competitive brushstroke, however, as the company was pretty much out of business by the mid-1970s. Favored makers for the old are Hubley, Spencer, Bradley and Hubbard, and National. Hubley was particularly prolific. Numbers inside are mold or model IDs. I try to describe the items as accurate as possible and provide plenty pictures which are part of the description. The pictures may be somewhat different from monitor to monitor. Antique Hubley Cast Iron Duckling Baby Duck Door Stop Paperweight Ca 1930

It is not marked, however, other examples I have seen on the web identified this duckling as Hubley. You experts will know for certain. The duckling is 4 5/8 tall, and weighs 1.25 pounds. It has it’s first original paint, and is in very good condition. There are some rubs and paint loss, but certainly above average. The photos are an integral part of my description. NR Antique Painted Cast Iron Duck Decoy Sinkbox Doorstop Paperweight Folk Art

A primitive, figural Cast Iron Duck Decoy painted as a Mallard Drake, 6L, ca. This is a solid, full-figured casting that resembles a miniature Sink Box weight. Quite heavy; probably for use as a Doorstop or Paperweight. Retains original painted surface. Unmarked, but with nearly identical paint scheme, size, etc. Oxidation noted on areas with paint loss, as shown. There is a possible repair on the lower third of the bill (a very faint line is visible under high resolution); see close-ups. Quite charming and very folky; highly-appropriate for any decoy enthusiast or collection of Americana. See photos for complete details and please consider them as part of the description.
