Martin Manor Antique Hardware. Old and vintage hardware from the past and including some recent items. Old Frog or Toad Antique Door Stop Cast Iron 1880’s Vintage Paint Folk Art 5 Lbs. These old antique cast iron frogs were used as door stops or paper weights. A great authenic 1800’s decoration that would add beauty and charm to your home or office. These were used to hold a door open or just as decorations. Be new or a reproduction. Usually the heavier they are, the older they are. Reproductions were made light to save cast iron. The oldest frogs were heavy becuase they were using up iron at the end of a pour. The paint on the frog is hunter green. The paint has a few wear. Spots giving it a great old look. The iron has nice texture and the paint has a few bubbles and runs. Every one of these frogs I have ever seen was painted different. It is 4 1/2 wide. It is 3 tall. It is 4.9 pounds of cast iron. Antique 1800s Cast Iron Frog Toad Doorstop Windmill Weight Webbed Toes Old Paint

Offered is a late 19th century, cast iron frog or toad, doorstop or windmill weight with webbed toes on the front feet. This is one of two from my 50 year collection presently listed for sale. Both are in great old paint. The other is a Victorian example of the heavily reproduced bullfrog, with four clubbed feet. This example looks more like a toad, with a warty surface, webbed front feet, and dissimilar back feet, that also have toes. Detailed casting throughout, and very, very old paint. There are chips on one or two toes on one foot, that have been there so long, they’re crusted over with dark brown rust. Beautiful patina with appropriate color, & wear and tear, where expected. In addition to being used to hold doors and as weights, figural iron pieces like this were being used in the mid 20th century in sidewalk newspaper & magazine stands to keep the stacks in place. I use them daily in my pantry to keep pet & bird feed sacks closed. Measures about 5″ long, 4 1/2″ wide, and 3 high. This hefty frog weighs almost 5#. Most of my items have been off the market, from estates, or in collections for decades.

The paint on this frog is the best I have seen yet. It is an toad color paint job that has aged well and shows some cast iron through where. Every frog I have ever seen was painted different. This one has paint so thick that the paint has cracked over time. A great authenic 1800’s decoration that would add beauty and charm to your home or office.
