Offered is a late 19th century, cast iron frog or toad, doorstop or windmill weight with webbed toes on the front feet. This is one of two from my 50 year collection presently listed for sale. Both are in great old paint. The other is a Victorian example of the heavily reproduced bullfrog, with four clubbed feet. This example looks more like a toad, with a warty surface, webbed front feet, and dissimilar back feet, that also have toes. Detailed casting throughout, and very, very old paint. There are chips on one or two toes on one foot, that have been there so long, they’re crusted over with dark brown rust. Beautiful patina with appropriate color, & wear and tear, where expected. In addition to being used to hold doors and as weights, figural iron pieces like this were being used in the mid 20th century in sidewalk newspaper & magazine stands to keep the stacks in place. I use them daily in my pantry to keep pet & bird feed sacks closed. Measures about 5″ long, 4 1/2″ wide, and 3 high. This hefty frog weighs almost 5#. Most of my items have been off the market, from estates, or in collections for decades.

I have a few other cast iron doorstops and/or paper weights. Here is a very nice vintage cast iron 10 sitting cat doorstop. This weighs a bit over 7lbs unboxed. The paint has wear, but it’s not too bad really. I could not find any markings. There may be some under the felt, but I didn’t see any with what is exposed. I’ve seen this style doorstop listed as being from the 1880s-1890s or so. I’m not sure, but it without question has some age! Please see pics for more details. I HAVE NO CONTROL OVER IT. VOTE TO CHANGE THINGS! I USUALLY HAVE DIFFERENT CHOICES.

Dimensions with stand: H 11.75″x L 10.5″x D 4 this vintage cast iron windmill weight is a Hummer rooster marked Hummer E184. Weight is just over 10 pounds. Produced by Elgin Wind Power and Pump Company in early 1900’s. It has a weathered paint finish with touches of red in the wattles/combs/tail feathers as photographed. Casting defects are also seen and photographed. This rooster has seen some sights. Nice old Antique Cast Iron Eagle Kasper Foundry Elyria, probably a doorstop, perhaps a windmill weight, pretty cool regardless. Nice surface, sweet form and details, measures about 7.25 tall by about 13 wide. No date and not something I could find anything like. A guaranteed conversation piece and not something you will likely find again. Please get them approved before purchasing. Any questions must be answered before the sale.
