Antique Cast Iron Doorstop Black and White Painted Full Figure Cocker Spaniel. For Your Antique Cast Iron Doorstop Collection-Spaniel1. Description: Antique cast iron doorstop cast in the form of a full figured Cocker Spaniel. The dog is standing on all four legs with his tail stretched up and his head turned to the side. The doorstop is painted in white with black highlights on the dog’s back, ears and around his eyes. The dog’s ears are down as is typical with spaniel breeds. The dog is wearing a thin red collar which does not completely go around his neck. The dog’s eyes are nicely colored with reddish yellow surrounding a large black pupil. The piece is very well cast as you can see. Look at the details of his face, the fur on his ears, and the details of the fur over his entire body. The door stop is made of two parts held together with at least one screw, which we can see near the back close to the tail. It would seem that it should have a second screw but such a screw is not obvious. The one screw that we can see appears not to have been unscrewed in the past and we decided not to try to unscrew it to verify the existence of marks on the inside. The piece appears to be all original with quite a bit of its original paint remaining but having quite a bit of losses to the paint. This is a nice size piece and weighs about 6 pounds and 10 ounces. Please view photos as they are part and parcel of the description. Date: Uncertain, but most likely sometime in the early to mid 1900s. Size: Measures 7″ in height, 11″ in length from end to end, and is 4 1/2 at its widest. The doorstop weighs about 6 pounds and 10 ounces. Marks: Unmarked on the outside. Distinguishing Characteristics – Most Interesting About The Piece: This is definitely a nice substantial antique doorstop. It would make a great addition to your collection. Condition: This doorstop is in very good condition with no breaks or repairs. It is all original and retains quite a bit of its original paint (>70%). It does have paint losses especially on the back, the rump, the paws, and the face. The only issue we see is the red collar which appears to have been repainted and does not go all around the neck. This is an original Hubley Cocker Spaniel with original paint. This is guaranteed an old one. The paint is in great shape. The detail in the casting of the dog is fantastic, the dog looks real. The bottom of the paws shows no paint and has the high spots polished. As the dog slide around the paint on the bottom would be worn off and the high spots on the bottom get polished, this is a great tool for recognizing early cast iron figures. It is 6 ¾ inches long by 4 ½ inches high. Being solid cast iron, it is heavy, about 5 pounds, making for a great door stop. Return will be accepted if it is not as described. ANTIQUE HUBLEY SOLID CAST IRON COCKER SPANIEL DOG DOORSTOP. This lovely dog weighs 5 lbs and is 7 inches long by 4 inches high at head by about 2 inches wide. The paint is all original (no touch-ups) and in very good condition overall, with a few isolated spots that have worn thin or chipped off (see photos). Details are clear and sharp, including the red collar, red line of the mouth, and black eyes with white and red highlights. The wavy fur is nicely detailed as well. On the bottom of each foot is an adhesive felt pad to prevent scratching surfaces, but these are easily removable if desired. An extremely good specimen of this highly collectible Hubley door stop.
