Rare Vintage Hubley Cast Iron Overhead Swinging Golfer Doorstop With Original Paint. Manufactured by the Hubley Manufacturing Company of Lancaster, Pennsylvania in 1920, this cast iron doorstop is in outstanding all original bright paint with no touch up or restoration of any kind, and with wonderful patina. It depicts an older, grey haired man, with typical knicker golf garb, taking a wild swing at a golf ball resting on the grass. It has a hollow out back with a “238” factory marking, indicating that it is original Hubley and not a reproduction. 10″ H x 7.13″ W x 2.13 D. Seen in Jeanne Bertoia’s 1985 book on doorstops page 60; and referenced on page 211 of the Smith book on doorstops. You are responsible to read the entire description. Most items are insured. Description : An investment-quality, 100-yr old painted Cast Iron Doorstop, 8-3/8H, Hubley Manufacturing Co. This is Hubley design #34: Putting Golfer. A period sporting gentleman dressed in a bold red jacket and tan striped knee breeches, addressing the ball on a green turf/scrub base. I think this might be a chip-putt with an iron. Impressed 34 on reverse. Retains original painted and highly-detailed surface. The photos are probably the best description. Literature : Jeanne Bertoias Doorstops: Identification & Values , Ordinary People, p. Condition : Some expected soiling, high point wear, oxidation, etc. It has not been cleaned. There is some fading noted on the front edge of the green. Beware of the many reproductions our there.. This example actually grades higher than the Putting Golfer in the book (see close-up, photo #1). A true cross-collectible that will not disappoint! Hubley cast iron putting golfer doorstop Paint loss to majority of it. #34(has a great Antique worn look and is possibly 80 to 100 years old) The Hubley company started in 1894. Just look close at the detailing and you can see how it’s different than the newer knock offs. These early produced one’s have much more defined detailing(his face, hair, socks, shoes even the bush) It was the way they molded them early on, it was more labor intensive but the final product was very detailed as you can see. See the Close up photo #10 you can see the #34 imprinted on back. Size 8-1/2”h, 7-1/4”w, 2”d. Weights 3 pounds 10.5 ounces. Packaged well no worries. Antique 1930s Cast Iron Decorative Art Statue. Trophy marked as follows. Wonderful old multi color painted surface. Very rare hard to find piece made to commemorate. His winning of the’Grand Slam’ in 1930. Whimsical big head golfer in knickers and bowtie. Fabulous piece to proudly display in your collection. Backside hard to read, two words. First we can not make out, second is studio. These were originally made into ashtray by bolting. An ashtray onto the front, this appears to have never. Please view all twelve pictures to appreciate the piece. Exhibits some minor wear associated with age and use. Cast iron decorative art weighs approximately 5 lb 6 oz. Measures approximately 1 1/2″ deep by 6 1/4″ wide by 12 tall. Piece sits upright fine but would tip over if used as doorstop. Wonderful scarce rare hard to find original old piece.
